VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN COSTA RICA

Come to Costa Rica and help in the development of the country while getting immersed into a fascinating culture. As a volunteer you will contribute to social reconstruction as you visit white sand beaches and the extensive tropical rain forest.

You will get to know Costa Rica from a different perspective impossible to achieve as a usual tourist. You will be amazed by the friendliness of the "Ticos" and their constant joy of life and creativity; Pura Vida! When working hands on together with locals you will live up their experiences as if they were yours, building a critical view of their reality. Besides, you will improve your Spanish and enjoy incredible outdoor activities.

Why Volunteer in Costa Rica?
  • Know as the “Switzerland of Central America” for being the only country in Latin America that hasn't gone through military putsches, dictatorships or wars since 1948. Nowadays, army is abolished and there is a lasting development.

  • Today Costa Rica possesses a high standard of living and has grown as a secure place to live and go around. Costa Ricans think not only in their economic welfare, but also in the protection of nature. 27% of the surface of the country stands under protection.

  • Famous for their friendliness towards foreigners, Ticos know how to retain their Indian and European roots and you will feel it in every aspect of daily life.

  • Impressive landscapes. Volcano chains, mountain ranges, deep blue lakes, varied flora and fauna and the majestic tropical rain forest are some of the amazing views you will love of the country. Enjoy the seaside as the waves caress the golden beaches.

Where can I Volunteer?

Costa Rica is a small country with just 4 million people. You can do your Volunteer program in every part of Costa Rica. Our main office is in the colonial and university town of Heredia close to the capital San Jose.

In which work areas can I work?

All Volunteer projects are in the social area, so, for example, you may be working in the areas of social work, education, environmental protection, and ecology. On account of the high importance of the environmental protection in Costa Rica, most of the placements here are in that area. You can even live in direct contact with local animals in national parks. Therefore, you have the unique chance to work with the people and the animals of the country day by day.

Project examples:

EDUCATION
*Work with children in a school, help out in general

SOCIAL WORK
*Work in day-care centre for children in Heredia
*Work in a temporary home for street children

NATURE
*Work in an animal first-aid post to help monkeys
*Work in a wild cats first-aid
*Work in an ecological ranch to take care of the environment
*Work as a butterfly tourist's guide
*Work in the National volcano park as a scientific helper
*Work in the National park Cabo Blanco

When is a Good time to Volunteer?

Volunteer placements in Costa Rica are available all year long starting any Monday. Keep in mind that Costa Rican summer vacation is from June to August so there might be less business activity during these months. Some placement areas might also not be available during those months.
